Algorithm the core of the system

The ICRAS system applies an algorithm to assist the operator in transferring the load. ICRAS calculates the optimal acceleration and deceleration to achieve stable load transfer from one point to another.

ICRAS optimises acceleration and deceleration
The system reads the speed reference generated by the crane from, for instance, the radio controller. The speed reference and load pendulum data are then fed into the ICRAS computation program. ICRAS uses this data to calculate optimal crane control within the acceleration and deceleration limits. The calculation can optimise either time or energy. Loading peaks that are harmful to equipment are eliminated when the ICRAS system is used.

Extremely rapid ICRAS calculations

ICRAS systems that are linked to PLCs calculate the optimal control some 30 times a second and when built into frequency converters up to 200 times a second. The computation latency of load sway control is so small that the crane operator does not notice it in practice.

Fast and precise positioning
In addition to providing fast and precise control, the ICRAS load sway control system can also calculate other control values – stopping distance in automatic positioning, for instance. That means the crane can be driven at full speed to the slowdown point. Deceleration only starts when the distance to the stopping point is the same as the stopping distance. That eliminates the need for slow speed when approaching the slowdown point and minimises load transfer time.

The ICRAS system can be fitted with a camera or other sway measuring sensor when used in, for example, container gantry cranes. If the angle measuring system fails, the standard ICRAS system operates normally and system performance does not noticeably deteriorate.
